MKTV (Ch. 73, Ch. 532, & Ch. 261) was established in 1993, with initial business philosophy of providing an encountering platform between Korean-American community and mainstream America. MKTV has now become the largest Korean broadcasting leader in the East Coast, covering New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and even parts of Pennsylvania. Growing larger and more influential each year, in 2006 MKTV celebrated having exclusive the broadcasting right for the German World Cup in Korean language
MKTV not only imports the best of Korean television programs, but also independently creates and promotes more than 16 programs on its own, supports local and national community events, and work together with Time Warner Cable and Cablevision in marketing their international programming. Thanks to our English subtitled Dramas, MKTV has gained tremendous popularity amongst the non-Korean speaking Asian Americans and mainstream Americans as well.
Mission
MKTV, over the years, has realized and developed several missions that sprang from our initial business philosophy - to establish cultural homogeneity between the two generations of Korean-Americans, and in doing so provide an effective transitional platform of cultural identity from one generation to the other.
In attempt to expand our reach to other international and mainstream American audience outside the boundaries of the Korean-American community, MKTV joined forces with Time Warner Cable and Cablevision in marketing their international programming, along with the dramatic expansion of our coverage area to every corners of the East Coast tri-state area last year. Such are stepping stones of MKTV's continuous aspiration to promote the Korean culture within United States and become the ultimate encountering platform for the mainstream American audience and the Korean culture.

The Korean-American community is celebrating its second century of immigration history. Second generation Koreans have adapted to the mainstream American culture with great ease and the community continues to prosper. It is now time to emphasize on the transition of traditional Korean culture to the second generation Koreans that are our children, and without communicative approach and an effective transitional medium, the Korean culture in America stands endangered and isolated.
The answer is that certain cultural homogeneity must be established between the two generations in order for the two to come to an understanding; such is our initial business philosophy.
The expansion of MKTV which took place in 2006 was extremely well received throughout the tri-state area. MKTV now covers 4 different states in the tri-state, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, reaching over 4 million households through Cablevision and Time Warner Cable. It is needless to say that we have reached countless numbers of non-Asian homes in the process. This has entitled us to an additional mission: MKTV must continue to import only the highest quality Korean television programs, as well as invest in additional English subtitles on our dramas, in order to become a leading medium between the mainstream American audience and the Korean culture.
In early 2009, MKTV underwent a dramatic reprogramming of our contents, replacing the entire import roster to programs produced by the largest and most credible productions in Korea. We hope our viewers are excited and hopeful about this change ? we certainly are. Let us expect some wonderful things happening in 2009. |

Cablevision & MKTV Join Forces
Joining forces with MKTV has brought immense values to Cablevision. This means that Cablevision now has the ability to reach out with one strong, ethnic oriented message to each ethnic group. We can send broad communications to all Koreans living in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island. I am excited and eager to more fully expand the possibilities of what MKTV and iO Korean can do together. The Chusok Festival was a perfect example of this kind of strategic alliance.
